Information from Statistics and Census Service indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 1,596,993 in June 2006, representing a year-on-year increase of 11.4%. Visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region grew 9.2% and 17.4% respectively, whereas those form Taiwan region, China dropped 10.3%. Meanwhile, same-day visitors accounted for 51.6% of the total arrivals, at 824,353.
Visitors came mainly from Mainland China (54.9% of the total), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (30.4%) and Taiwan region, China (7.3%). Among those from Mainland China, 397,465 (45.3%) travelled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme.
In the first half of 2006, visitor arrivals reached 10,422,480, a 16.8% growth over the same period of last year. Visitors from Mainland China rose 16.7% to 5,825,455, which accounted for 55.9% of the total arrivals; those from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Taiwan region, China shared 30.6% and 6.6% respectively. Furthermore, same-day visitors made up 52.1% of the total, at 5,428,069.
Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea jumped 16.8% to 3,693,347 in the first half of 2006, with 3,502,259 arriving at the Outer Harbour (+13.8%); the majority of these visitors were from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (58.3%) and Mainland China (30.2%). Visitor arrivals at the Inner Harbour leaped 130.3% to 191,088 and 57.5% were from Mainland China.
At the same time, the cumulative number of visitors arriving through the Border Gate jumped 26.7% to 6,140,023. The majority of the visitors came from Mainland China (73.9%) and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (18.3%).
In addition, visitor arrivals by air were 589,110 up 14.7% compared with the same period of last year, with 584,044 arrived at the Macao International Airport (+15.0%). Visitors from Taiwan region, China (54.1%) and Mainland China (20.5%) were the major users of this access.
